Apple iPhone – The Next Generation in Mobile Communications
Posted by Cristian under Great Ideas , Technology
iPhone arrived on June 29, 2007 and even in the first few hours after its official releasing it became a success with the consumers and the professionals. iPhone is more than just a mobile phone – it is also a music player, a video player, an internet device and a camera all in one. Apple developed during the last few years a series of high tech devices such as Apple iPod Nano and iPod Video that integrate the latest technologies available in the field of electronics and telecommunications. The dimensions of the iPhone would make green with envy any model: 11.6mm thick, 2.4-inches wide and 4.5-inches tall. The screen is a generous 3.5-inch, 320×480 pixels at 160 ppi touchscreen display with multitouch support and a proximity sensor to turn off the screen when it is close to your face. The iPhone has an unbelievably storage capacity of 4GB or 8GB, internal flash memory.
As far as the battery is concerned Apple quotes 5 hours of battery life for video and talk with 16 hours in music mode. No data about the standby time is available yet.
The Apple officials have confidence in the new iPhone and want to sell more than 10 million units by 2008. Many pros in the field think that Apple will sell over 10 million iPhones in less than 6 months. With the worldwide fame of the Apple brand and the fact that the device has been rumored about for at least four years now this prediction should not be far out of reality.
iPhone Features
SMS Text Messaging
iPhone facilitates sending text messages using an SMS application with a predictive QWERTY soft keyboard that automatically corrects any mistakes that might occur when typing. The small plastic keyboards are now long gone with the new iPhone as SMS text messaging has become easier and more efficient than ever before.
This is the right moment to enjoy the best-ever email on a mobile phone. iPhone can display rich HTML email with all the associated photos and graphics alongside the text. It does not matter what email system you usually use because it works with the most popular email services such as Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, AOL and Mac Mail. iTunes makes setup on iPhone the easiest thing to do by automatically synchronizing the setting from email accounts stores in Outlook on a PC.
Photos
The 2-megapixel built-in camera and the 3.5-inch display are the perfect interactive parts of this masterpiece that allow you, the user, to take and show off your favourite digital photos. iPhone uses iTunes to transfer pictures and images from any picture folder on a PC. iPhone can store thousands of pictures but you may as well create and album with a few hundreds of your favourite. The photo management application is available on the phone now. You can even browse or email photos with just one touch of the screen.
Music and Video
This is in fact the best iPod ever made. The 3.5-inch widescreen display allows users to listen to music, to watch their favourite TV shows or movies that are stored in the iTunes library. iTunes helps you to create a playlist of your best songs. If the application is not available yet on the device it can be easily downloaded from the Apple site. The iTunes account with Apple’s iTunes Store is very easy to set up. After signing up you can sign in using the Sign In button in the upper right corner of iTunes.
YouTube
Thousands of clips and funny short movies can be watched using iPhone. It has a special YouTube player that can be launched from the home screen. No matter where you are and no matter where you go you can access and browse YouTube videos. iPhone can even send an email with the link of an interesting video to any of your friends.

I remember that the my computer from the first year at faculty had a 4GB harddisk… Comparable to an iPhone, isn’t it? (no, I’m not that old, it just was a non-performant computer)
